Let’s face it, weddings aren’t for everyone. As someone who eloped and doesn’t regret it for a second, I DO regret not doing my research first. We took all the wrong steps, let a friend accidentally pay for a fake certificate on a scam website, and eventually had to redo the entire thing down at the courthouse. Such. A. Pain.

I’ve always known my end game for photography would be shooting elopements. But I wanted to help my couples cut through all the hassle and elope the way they dreamed of. So I’ve gathered all the correct links, steps, and tricks for shaping your day into the perfect one for you and your love.

Step One: Book a free consultation!

Tell me about your dream day and let me walk you through locations, permit requirements, seasonal tricks, and all the other considerations to keep your choices from feeling overwhelming.

Step Two: Pick your date and location!

It’s a common misconception that you have to elope at a court house. Your marriage license can actually be used anywhere in the state of California. It only needs to be filed in the county you received it from after it has been fulfilled. This gives you the freedom to find a spot that’s meaningful and intimate to your relationship rather than a dusty courthouse room. Haven’t chosen something you love yet? Check my location guide for ideas and inspiration !

Step Three: File for a marriage license.

You can fill out your paperwork ahead of time and receive your license on the same day as your appointment. California gives you 90 days to use your license before it expires. So make sure you set you appointment within 90 days of your desired elopement date! You can find the forms and make your appointment online at the county website, linked here.

Step Four: Get Ready !

What do we need?

An elopement can be as simple or as flashy as you want, but there are some non negotiables !! The state of California requires an officiant as well as a witness to be present at the time of your ceremony. Good news! I can fill in as either. If you have me booked to photograph your ceremony, I can either officiate OR act as your witness since I will be along anyways. However, your officiant cannot double as a witness. Not wanting to decide on a family or friend to come along for the ceremony? I get that! Ask me about my add on to get the second position covered for you as well as some other fun perks.
